According to my design plan my multimedia poem is excellent. It is less than two minutes, clocking in at one minute and a few seconds. It is also approved by Mrs. V, it has some meaning to it, and it is more than 4 lines. However my first poem that I wanted to use, although approved by Mrs. V, was very lengthy and would have been extremely difficult to use as a poem for making multimedia poetry.
There are only images to be less confusing. I did not use video, just like I planned. I listed the URLs of the pictures in the credits, and I used pictures with reasonably high resolution. I also used solid colors (just black) as backgrounds on some slides. I did not self-create images or music due to time constraints, but I was satisfied with the images and music I had chosen.
My text was simple and the colors were easy to read. Each slide had from 1 to 4 lines just like planned. My text fonts were mostly the same. I used simple classical music and included credits, and my colors were mostly grayscale in terms of text.
Improvments: I should have made it longer, because it was only a minute and a few seconds. I also mistakenly said ‘groves’ instead of ‘droves’. The music also should have been louder, and maybe slower. The pictures were perfect; there were no problems with them. A couple slides were too fast so I should have slowed them down.
Evaluate performance:
- Design Specification: my design specification performance was good. I had all the specifications and limitations that I needed. I put down specifications for music, pictures, transitions, and timing.
- My plan was good but didn’t have any alternative plans if something got in the way of my original plan. I did not exactly schedule it per class and that might have had an effect on my progress.
- My design (storyboards) were also good, if not a bit simple. I drew two storyboards and chose one of them to use as a basis for my poem. I chose the second one, which is divided into several slides.
Overall, I did an excellent job with my multimedia poetry and am very satisfied.

DESIGN SPECIFICATION – MULTI MEDIA POETRY
Design Specification
Requirements and Restrictions
- I need a poem that is approved by Mrs. V, the English teacher.
- It must have some meaning in it (I cannot write a poem about the ingredients of shampoo)
- It must be longer than 4 lines.
- The time of the multimedia poem must be at least 1 minute long but less than 3 minutes long. I would like mine to be about 2 minutes, because any longer than that will be hard for the viewer to stay focused on.
- There has to be images or video. I would like there to be only images, because I feel that video will take too much attention away from the text.
- Any images taken from the internet should have their URLs listed in the credits.
- The resolution of the pictures should provide for a clear and not blurry image. If the images need to be resized, I can use a solid color background to make it look better.
- I can also self-create images, by taking pictures or using programs such as Picasa or paint. However, the pictures I am thinking of using are hard to photograph and I will therefore use a great portion of them from the internet.
- I need to use a font and text size that will call attention to the text, but I shouldn’t use anything that is difficult to read or is colored so it is difficult to see on the background.
- I will attempt to use anywhere from 1-4 lines per slide. It depends on the pacing of the poem I want.
- I will only use on font, but I might change the size of the text depending on emphasis. Then again, if I change my mind, I might use a different font to emphasize a word.
- The color of the text will probably vary depending on my background picture, but I will aim to use neutral colors or black and white.
- I am not sure if I want to add sound to my presentation, because often it can be distracting. However, I think that if I use a piece of music without lyrics, I can include it in my presentation. Lyrics will definitely distract from the poem.
- I think that effects and different transitions between and during slides may enhance the presentation, but I should use them sparingly because, again, they are distracting.
- Credits are obviously required, so I will include them in my presentation.

PLAN
Set a time frame and work plan for all work to be done. Do what? By When?
- I have 3-5 classes left to finish this, as well as time at home. First class I will finish design specification, design, plan, and test. Second class I will begin to put together the poem, as well as the third class. Other classes I will revise and continue to edit the poem.
How are you going to do it, what tools or application programs are you going to use?
-For this I will use Microsoft Word and Windows Movie Maker.
Collect, select and organize your media in a folder on Students Storage and name it appropriately.
Don't forget that you will need high resolution images and do your best to choose your music well in advance and bring it to school well in advance. Don't forget that almost always there are some technical problems when dealing with software and that sometimes it takes more time than you originally anticipated. Plan wise!

Create at least two story boards that will list all the elements of each scene: text, background, audio, visuals, transitions, special effects etc. Consider what elements could be “self produced.”
Chose one storyboard, and justify your choice. Check them against your Design specification.

Last Year Audience Assessment Form (might be slightly modified, graded 1-10)
Content: The poem reflects a high degree of imagination and sensitivity. There is a clear message.
Organization: The stanzas and lines consistently emphasize the theme/s of the poem.
Style and Language:
Usage The vocabulary is appropriate. There are very few errors in spelling, punctuation, etc.
Font choice and formatting :Font formats (size, colour, type) have been carefully chosen to enhance readability and content.
Number of words per slide: Information is concise and neatly presented on each slide.
Use of Graphics: All graphics are attractive (size, colours, clarity) and explain / reinforce the poem.
Transitions and Animations: Transitions / sounds are carefully used and add to the meaning of the poem.
Before you start doing your Design, you should devise appropriate test for your MMP. How would you know that your MM poem is effective and of appropriate quality? Write a post on your blog.

How I know my MMP will be effective
To ensure that I get proper feedback on my multimedia poem, I will show my completed project to various people and seek their opinions and suggestions. I will ask them some questions on how they felt about the music, the fonts and colors, the poem, the images, and the timing. Based upon these suggestions, criticisms and opinions I will make any modifications I feel are justified and hand my poem in as a final project.
